Partner Commitments

Siemens Healthcare was an early supporter of the MIT Intelligence Initiative ( I2); having awarded a grant of $200,000 to Professor Tomaso Poggio in 2012.  Siemens has committed to an ongoing relationship with CBMM, in particular they have provided a CBMM Siemens Graduate Fellowship for supporting a graduate student at CBMM.

CBMM Siemens Graduate Fellowship

Researchers conducting research that is directly relevant to understanding human intelligence may apply for the CBMM Siemens Graduate Fellowship. This fellowship program is designed to enhance interdisciplinary research on intelligence at MIT and showcase its applications to technologies of Intelligence. The fellowship will be awarded to candidates who carry out innovative research bridging at least two different CBMM labs and possibly overlaps with the interests of Siemens research. Especially desirable is research contributing to one of the CBMM Turing-like challenges.  A quantitative background is required, with skills in mathematics and programming, a good understanding of machine learning and a sufficient knowledge of neuroscience and cognitive science. Two visits per year to the Siemens Research Labs in Princeton are required, together with a summer internship of at least one month during the first year.

Graduate candidate requirements:

  • Accepted in an MIT PhD program prior to the start of the fellowship.
  • Each candidate must have two CBMM faculty members as his or her advisors.

Schlumberger generously donated a gift of $100,000 as of January 2014.
